Optical Transport Disruption Between Iowa City and Hiawatha Thursday 29th July 2021 07:50:00
Connectivity between Iowa City and Hiawatha on our optical transport network went loss of signal around 7:50 AM Central this morning. We have contacted the fiber provider and they are dispatching their outside plant team to investigate.
The fiber vendor is hands off, all services normal. Closing incident.
Clarification - CFU Internet customers were not impacted by this fiber problem. Traffic flowed over alternate fiber paths while the fiber was down.
Splicing on both sides continues to progress, and the current estimated time to repair is 2 hours.
Our optical transport link is currently operational but we have not heard confirmation that the repair work has completed. We will continue to provide updates on repairs as we receive them from the fiber provider.
Current estimated time to repair is 4 hours. Splicing is starting at one end and the other end is being prepared for splicing. Services may be restored prior to a complete repair but could still be disrupted until splicers and fiber crews have completed their work.
The fiber is being prepared for splicing on one end to begin the repairs. No estimated time to repair is available yet.
The outside plant crews have found damaged fiber in Cedar Rapids and continue to investigate the situation.
