Chicago Transport Connectivity Impairment Tuesday 22nd February 2022 16:16:26

Two of our four 10Gbps transport connections to our router in Chicago are currently down. We have contacted the provider to investigate and resolve the issue. We are working to mitigate congestion on the other two 10Gbps transport connections that are still operational.

Connectivity was restored at approximately 1:30 AM this morning.

Challenges accessing the damaged fiber has caused delays in completing the repairs. At this time there is no estimated time to repair.

There have been some issues during the repair process which has delayed the repair. The provider has told us this has extended the estimated time to repair 1-2 hours.

The provider has informed us the new fiber cable has been pulled and splicing has started. Current estimated time to repair is in 2-3 hours if no other issues are found.

Excavation is still on going in order to repair the damaged fiber, and a second pit needs to be dug out in order to pull the new fiber cable. Our two 10G transport connections via the other provider are operational again for the time being but could still be impacted while repairs are being made. Still no estimated time to repair. We continue making an effort to mitigate potential congestion on our other transport connectivity while the repairs are in progress.

The other provider for our two 10Gbps transport connections to Chicago has also been impacted by the damage to this fiber and repairs are still in progress. We do anticipate some customers may experience some congestion as a result.

The provider has notified us that repairs to the underground ducting is starting.

The damage has been located and crews are on site. They are also getting a flagman to the site as required because the damage is along a rail road.

The latest update from the transport provider is that the precise location of the damage to the fiber is being located. No estimated time to repair has been provided.
