OTN Fiber maintenance Thursday 22nd February 2024 23:09:28

We have been notified by our fiber provider that there is an ongoing fiber maintenance in progress affecting our Eastern portion of our OTN ring. The maintenance window is set for 2024-02-23 06:00:00 - 2024-02-23 12:00:00 UTC.

The fiber provider has restored all service issues related to this damage and has gone hands off.

The dark fiber provider has rolled our fibers to a new pair which has restored service currently but they are continuing to investigate and have not yet gone hands off so there is still a potential they will need to perform further invasive work to complete the restoration.

The provider has a bucket truck on site and reports that the damage has been found due to a gunshot on aerial fiber. They are going to attempt migrating connectivity to an alternate set of fibers as a temporary fix, however if that is unsuccessful new fiber will need to be run and re-spliced on each end.

OTDR traces in the field have identified further damage and they are awaiting an truck to arrive to access an aerial splice case to investigate further. Estimated time for the truck to arrive is 1.5 to 2 hours, no estimated time to repair currently.

Splicers have arrived on site and are preparing to shoot the fiber to get the precise location of the cut. No ETTR

Correction: The maintenance was not part of the fiber cut. However, UPN has located the break between Cedar Falls and Hiawatha and have dispatched splicers for repair. NO ETTR
