Optical Transport Network Disruption Tuesday 3rd September 2024 08:53:58

We have identified a link down on our East Path between Iowa City and Hiawatha. We are working with our fiber partners to get this resolved.

This break was repaired last night. Cause was determined to be tiling that cut a 96ct span.

OSP reports that splicing has completed, and crews are hands off. This outage was caused by tilling
that cut a 96 ct fiber span. All ports appear to be back up and light levels have returned to normal. We will monitor through the night to ensure circuits are stable.

Technicians report that the damage has now been identified. Underground crews will be onsite within an hour to begin exposing the fiber at both sides. Once exposed, 1300ft of new 96Ct fiber will need to be run. Splicers are already on site beginning prep work on both sides for when the new fiber has been run. No ETTR at this time

Technicians have identified where they believe the damage should be but have been unable to locate the actual break. They are awaiting additional technicians to arrive to assist in finding the damage.
