Optical Transport Disruption between Ames and Des Moines Monday 21st October 2024 15:33:57

We are seeing a loss of signal between our Ames and Des Moines optical transport nodes. We are contacting the dark fiber provider to investigate a potential fiber cut.

Splicing has been completed and our provider is hands off. Our connection on the west side of the ring has been restored.

The fiber provider has hung new fiber along the damaged span and splicing on each end is in progress. Current estimated time to repair is 1 hour.

Our fiber provider has reported splicers have started splicing the East end and crews are still hanging fibers on the West end. ETR is 2 hours.

Our fiber provider's techs are now in the process of hanging new fibers on to polls. No ETTR currently.

Our fiber provider has located the damage. They found their 96ct aerial fiber was snagged by a bucket truck. Techs have been dispatched to the site with resources and a bucket truck. ETA on crews is 1 hour. No ETTR at this time.
