One of Three Links to Chicago Out of Service Wednesday 16th December 2020 17:48:27

CFU has three links to Chicago, one of those links has been taken out of service due to inconsistency handling traffic. The other two Chicago links are fine, as are all the links to Des Moines and Minneapolis. The vendor used for the bad link is investigating a resolution to the issue, but no repair time has been established.

No issues detected on the link since 08JAN2021, closing incident.

The last change made 06JAN2021 seems to have stabilized the link. Both CFU and the vendor plan on monitoring the link for another week before determining it fully repaired.

Additional equipment changes were made this morning, still monitoring.

The vendor made some equipment changes this morning, we are still closely monitoring the link.

The vendor made a change on 31DEC2020 that improved optical power levels. The link was placed back into service. Problems on the link were reported sporadically from 12:10 to 20:40 on 01JAN2020. No issues have been reported or logged since, the link has remained in service. Maintenance will be scheduled to address the issues discovered 01JAN2021. A notice for any such maintenance will be posted on status.cfu.net when it is scheduled.

This issue is not yet resolved. The vendor is checking other equipment in the transport path and may need to replace equipment. The link has been taken out of service again until the vendor has completed all proposed work.

The vendor has rescheduled maintenance for 30DEC2020 at 00:00 to 01:00. The link is still out of service so the maintenance will have no impact.

Our vendor has scheduled emergency maintenance on this link for tonight at 1AM. We have already taken this link out of service and expect no impact.

The troublesome link was taken out of service again on 26DEC2020. Troubleshooting on the link is to occur 28DEC2020.

The last change implemented by the vendor has made the link stable enough to be put back into service. There has been one short instance of instability since the link has been in service. The link will be monitored for anomalies.

This issue remains ongoing. The planned redundancy in CFU upstream Internet connections has meant no discernable impact to customers.

The out-of-service link is still experiencing issues. Vendor technicians will be replacing an equipment module in Chicago as part of the effort to resolve the issue.
